LEARNING GOAL #2 - Introduction to Microsoft Word:Students will be able to conduct online research, evaluate/cite sources, and type a one-page research paper using multiple features of Microsoft Word 2016.
LESSON OVERVIEW: Microsoft began in 1975 as a small start-up company with two men who had this crazy idea of getting a computer into every home throughout the country. At the time, most people who did any typing did so on a typewriter. Companies like IBM and Apple were beginning to design small, personal computers, but the computers needed programs. This is where Bill Gates and Paul Allen came in. Today, we will learn about the History of Microsoft and the origins of Microsoft Word.
DAILY SCHEDULE (85 MINUTES): PART 1: SOLO WORK (10-20 Minutes) PART 2: CLASS DISCUSSION / NEW MATERIAL (30-50 Minutes) PART 3: DAILY ACTIVITY (10-20 Minutes) PART 4: CLOSING (5 Minutes)
PART 1: SOLO WORK Step 1: Find your assigned computer Step 1a: Classroom helper pass out name tags Step 2: Log on to your assigned computer Step 3: Go to and log on to your typingweb.com account Step 4: Begin your next typing practice lesson Step 5: Remember, you are trying to reach at least 15 WPM on each of the Beginner Lessons (all 9 of them)
PART 2: CLASS DISCUSSION / NEW MATERIAL Step 1: Go to the class discussion web site Step 2: Begin reading new lesson material until class discussion activity start Step 3: Once the class discussion activity starts, follow along on the web site and be prepared to read the material out loud to the class
PART 4: CLOSING Step 1: Classroom helper collect and put away name tags Step 2: Close all open applications (Microsoft Office applications, web sites, etc.) Step 3: Gracefully shut down your computer Step 4: Turn off your display Step 5: Push your chair under the desk and pick up any trash
