Lesson 1.7: The Future of the Mouse and D-I Vocabulary
LEARNING GOAL: The Language of Office TechnologyStudents will understand all basic terminology of office and internet technology and be able to speak the language when working within a computer classroom.
LESSON OVERVIEW: With so many laptops, phones, and tablets out there, there may come a day when no one uses a mouse to move around on the computer. They may just end up using a thumb pad at the bottom of the keyboard. But for now, the mouse is here to stay and we must learn to use it the correct way without cutting off the blood flow to our index and middle fingers. This lesson is about learning to manage stress while typing and using the mouse.
DAILY SCHEDULE (85 MINUTES): PART 1: SOLO WORK (10-20 Minutes) PART 2: CLASS DISCUSSION / NEW MATERIAL (30-50 Minutes) PART 3: DAILY ACTIVITY (10-20 Minutes) PART 4: CLOSING (5 Minutes)
PART 1: SOLO WORK Step 1: Find your assigned computer Step 1a: Classroom helper pass out name tags Step 2: Log on to your assigned computer Step 3: Go to and log on to your typingweb.com account Step 4: Begin your next typing practice lesson Step 5: Remember, you are trying to reach at least 15 WPM on each of the Beginner Lessons (all 9 of them)
PART 2: CLASS DISCUSSION / NEW MATERIAL Step 1: Go to the class discussion web site Step 2: Begin reading new lesson material until class discussion activity start Step 3: Once the class discussion activity starts, follow along on the web site and be prepared to read the material out loud to the class
PART 4: CLOSING Step 1: Classroom helper collect and put away name tags Step 2: Close all open applications (Microsoft Office applications, web sites, etc.) Step 3: Gracefully shut down your computer Step 4: Turn off your display Step 5: Push your chair under the desk and pick up any trash
