LESSON OVERVIEW:Look at the keyboard that sits in front of your computer screen. The keys are not aligned alphabetically. Nothing seems to have any order. And yet, every keyboard at every computer (even some of your phones) have the same arrangement of letters, numbers, and symbols. In this lesson, we will talk about how we got this arrangement of typing keys and why everyone still uses it on almost every computer and device.

PART 1: SOLO WORK Step 1: Find your assigned computer Step 1a: Classroom helper pass out name tags Step 2: Log on to your assigned computer Step 3: Go to and log on to your typingweb.com account Step 4: Begin your next typing practice lesson Step 5: Remember, you are trying to reach at least 15 WPM on each of the Beginner Lessons (all 9 of them)
PART 2: CLASS DISCUSSION / NEW MATERIAL Step 1: Go to the class discussion web site Step 2: Begin reading new lesson material until class discussion activity start Step 3: Once the class discussion activity starts, follow along on the web site and be prepared to read the material out loud to the class
PART 4: CLOSING Step 1: Classroom helper collect and put away name tags Step 2: Close all open applications (Microsoft Office applications, web sites, etc.) Step 3: Gracefully shut down your computer Step 4: Turn off your display Step 5: Push your chair under the desk and pick up any trash
